Hello everyone,

I have trying to run the logtool anaylzer from the command prompt in the linux server. I can run it from my windows laptop but it takes time. So to make the operation faster I have trying to run it in a linux server. But I am facing some issues while running it. The error I am getting is like below :

RE: Problem running Logtool analyzer in linux machine

mansarin

Porag,

I might be mistaken, but maybe it’s an issue with not having superuser (sudo) permissions in that folder? Perhaps try running it on another folder that doesn’t need ‘sudo’ for file manipulation? Or add a ‘sudo’ to the command line?

I’m nowhere near an expert on linux or the logtools so John or Govert can maybe provide better guidance.

Cheers,

Mohammad

RE: Problem running Logtool analyzer in linux machine

gbuijs
It shouldn't be needed to run as root.

Try running 'mvn clean compile' before the command.

Hello, Porag -

It looks like maven is not able to create the necessary directories for its downloads from the snapshot repo. What is your current working directory when this happens? Does the directory ~/.m2 exist? Are its permissions correct (in otherwords, do you have read and write permissions for it? If so, how much of the path ~/.m2/repository/org/powertac already exists?

Just for comparison, here are the permissions on my system for ~/.m2 and ~/.m2/repository:

jcollins@hazel:~/development/powertac$ ls -l ~/.m2
total 8
drwxr-xr-x 75 jcollins jcollins 4096 Apr 19 13:29 repository
-rw-r--r--  1 jcollins jcollins 1569 Oct 31  2013 settings.xml
jcollins@hazel:~/development/powertac$ ls -ld ~/.m2
drwxr-xr-x 3 jcollins jcollins 4096 Oct 31  2013 /home/jcollins/.m2

If you are not familiar with Linux/Unix permissions, there are three categories: user, group. others. The minimum permissions you would need are drwx------ which means it's a directory, and gives the user read, write, and execute permissions, and nobody else any permissions. You need execute permission to "operate" on a directory.

Does this help?

John

Hi John

Thanks for your reply. I am not an that much familiar with linux, trying to learn it. I think I have the correct permissions.

[11] mchowdhury4@iasrl08 logtool-examples> $ ls -l ~/.m2
total 12
drwx------  3 mchowdhury4 research 4096 Jan 14  2015 ./
drwx------ 12 mchowdhury4 research 4096 Jul 14 18:38 ../
drwx------ 37 mchowdhury4 research 4096 May 17 03:12 repository/

[12] mchowdhury4@iasrl08 logtool-examples> $ ls -ld ~/.m2
drwx------ 3 mchowdhury4 research 4096 Jan 14  2015 /home/users/mchowdhury4/.m2/

Please let me know what do you think ?

That looks correct. What version of maven are you running? It should look something like this:

Hello again, Porag -

Looks mostly OK, except that we've moved to Java 8, and you have Java 7 on this system. You won't be able to compile some parts of the system, and almost certainly the pre-compiled content in the snapshot repo won't run. But that does not appear to be the problem you are seeing. There may still be a directory permission problem somewhere further down the path where it's trying to create directories. Probably if you try

jcollins@hazel:~/development/powertac$ ls -ld ~/.m2/repository/org/powertac/server-master/1.3.3-SNAPSHOT
drwxrwxr-x 2 jcollins jcollins 4096 Jun 26 14:05 /home/jcollins/.m2/repository/org/powertac/server-master/1.3.3-SNAPSHOT

you will find that the 1.3.3-SNAPSHOT dir does not exist or you cannot write to it. So see if you can find a problem along that path.
